Reduce Utility Costs with Geothermal Energy
In today’s economy, saving money is as important as ever. The rising cost of utilities and environmental impact can certainly cause homeowners to rethink their energy strategy. By investing in a geothermal heating and cooling system, you can reduce your annual utility costs while helping to reduce negative environmental impact.
What Does Installation Require?
Depending if your Raleigh home is new construction or you are replacing an old system, the installation process can require a few additional details.
- New homes – the installation process is simplest, requiring just an initial installation without disrupting your day to day living.
- Older homes – more extensive process required removal of existing furnace, possible duct replacement and electrical upgrades.
A loop system will be installed by digging trenches in the yard space near the home, and placing large loop coils below the surface. An anti-freeze liquid solution will be contained within the coils and pumped through the system.
How Geothermal Energy Works
A geothermal heating/cooling system utilizes the ambient energy present below the frost layer of the Earth’s surface. Air temperature can change drastically, but below the frost line, temperatures remain much more consistent.
The anti-freeze solution will absorb the existing heat from the surrounding ground and a heat pump will process the energy and heat your home. A reversal of the process will cool the home.
The Benefits of a Geothermal Home
By using geothermal energy to heat or cool your home, you can reduce your monthly utility costs. A heat pump does not directly heat or cool the air in your home, thus using less electrical energy to do the same task that a conventional furnace will use.
Due to reduced electrical usage, a geothermal energy system reduces environmental impact. You won’t need to burn gas, wood or oil to heat your home resulting in reduced carbon emissions being introduced into the environment.
